Genevieve Mirabal Lucero, born in Las Cruces in 1927, to Reyes and Jesusita Mirabal entered into eternal life on June 19, 2009. She was a homemaker until her children were grown and then was employed at various businesses in Las Cruces. Genevieve was a caretaker of children in her home for over 15 years where she was always stretching their imaginations and helping them to be successful. Her favorite pastime was dancing and most importantly she was very good at it. She loved to visit and mingle with people. Coming from a large family it was common for her home to be filled with lots of children and adults for holiday events. The youngest of 12 children she is preceded in death by six brothers, Ned Mirabal, Johnny Mirabal, Max Mirabal, David Mirabal, Dan Mirabal and Frank Mirabal, also five sisters Sofia West, Irene Chavez, Dolores Sanchez, Martha Montoya and Ruth Ibarra and also suffered the loss of her son Henry M. Lucero. She is survived by her children Dolores Connor and husband Bill, and Albert M. Lucero and wife Ana. Her grandchildren are Jacob Rodriguez and wife Thea, Kristin and Samantha Connor, Yvonne L. Capoldi and husband Ernie, Yvette Lucero, Sebring Lucero and wife Jennifer, Savonne Griffin and husband Manuel. Her great-grandchildren are Zeppelin and Adela Lucero and Christian Griffin. Genevieve was a strong and resourceful woman each and every day. There were many times that she spent taking care of someone else and reached out to those who needed her. Visitation for Genevieve will be Monday, June 22, 2009 beginning at 5pm with a Rosary to follow at 6:30 pm at the Getz Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral liturgy will be given on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at 10am at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers the family have asked that donations be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice, La Posada, at 299 E. Montana, Las Cruces, NM 88001. PDF Printable Version
