He graduated from Hatch Valley High School in 1948 at the age of 16 and attended New Mexico A & M for a year before joining the U.S. Army. He met his sweetheart Louise Franzoy on December 5, 1952 at a dance and they were later married on April 11, 1953. Crighton worked as a farmer, handyman and carpenter all of his adult life. He was the oldest of four children born to the late George Andrew and Mary Anne Benvie. He was the beloved husband of Louise for 57 years. Crighton is survived by his loving children; Sister Betty Benvie; Terry (Jeff) Snyder; David (Karen) Benvie; George Benvie; and Peggy (Michael) Treadwell. His treasured grandchildren include: Marie Snyder, Susan Snyder, Heather Gunderson, Dominic Treadwell and Austin Treadwell. Also surviving him is his devoted sister, Nancy Pricer, along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Gunderson and sisters, Peggy Rose and Mary Tibbs. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, singing, working at the computer, making greeting cards, completing crossword puzzles, taking photos, creating canes and walking sticks from yucca stalks, traveling and most of all he loved being with his family and friends. Crighton was a man of deep faith in God and he was devoted to his family and friends. He touched the lives of many people with his gentleness and compassionate presence. He will live on in our hearts and memories as one who gave his life to others with love and generosity without counting the cost.
