"Big George" Evans, 70, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018 at the Mesilla Valley Hospice Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico. George was born on November 16, 1947 and grew up in Lynchburg, OH. He graduated from Seabreeze High School in Daytona Beach, FL and went on to attend the University of Florida. He was a boatswain's mate in the Navy and was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War. He married Linda Evans (Fridenmaker) in 1979 and lived in Pataskala, OH. George started his own business in 1985 providing special trucking and shipping services. In 2005, both he and Linda decided it was time for retirement. So, they decided to move from Ohio to sunny Las Cruces, NM to get away from the snowy winters and humid summers. George was a music lover who played the organ in church and piano in a Christian Rock band, a Football fanatic (The Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns) and a staunch Republican. He enjoyed spending most of his life playing golf with Linda, traveling with friends, hanging out with his golfing buddies and loved the quality time he shared with his family. George will always be remembered by those who knew him for his audacious, extraordinary personality and his colossal heart of gold. George is survived by his wife of 38 years, Linda Marie Evans (Fridenmaker) of Columbus, OH; one son, George Chadwick Evans of Columbus, OH; two grandsons, Callan Robert Evans and Jack Robert Evans; "Uncle Bud", Carl A. Evans of Columbus, OH, "Brother", Christopher J. Ward of Alamogordo, NM; nephew, Matthew D. Evans of Las Vegas, NV and multiple cousins and countless golfing friends. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 20th at 6:00 pm at Getz Funeral Home, located at 1410 E. Bowman Ave. Las Cruces, NM.
