George M. Garcia, 71, life long resident of Las Cruces, entered eternal rest on Saturday, April 19, 2008, with his family at his bedside. George was born on April 23, 1936, to Vidal and Cruz Garcia. At an early age George showed an inclination and aptitude for hard work and sound decision-making, traits that would serve him well throughout his life. He served his country honorably in Vietnam, Germany, Ft. Bliss, and White Sands Missile Range. George later retired from the New Mexico Army National Guard with the rank of Army Lieutenant Colonel. In the mid 70's George found his calling in real estate and property management, which culminated in his beloved Apache Realty. George's routines were legendary. He worked out every day at Tom Young's and usually ate at the same locatons. He was survived by; one son, Roberto Garcia, one daughter Cruzita Garcia, both of Las Cruces, New Mexico, six brothers, Jess and Susan Garcia, of Denver, Colorado, Vidal Garcia, of Casa Grande, Arizona, Valentin and Jodi, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Leon and Jeannette Garcia, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Tony and Geri, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Johnny Garcia, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, four sisters, Barbara Madrid, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Margaret Apodaca, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Mary Thelma Harris, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Dolores Garcia, of Albuquerque, New Mexico. George was preceded in death by the love of his life Barbara, his parents, Vidal and Cruz Garcia, two sisters, Emily and Erma Garcia. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 23, 2008, from 5-7 PM at Getz Funeral home, with Prayer Vigil to follow at 7 PM. The Funeral Liturgy will be at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at 10 AM with Most Reverend Bishop Ricardo Ramirez C.S.B officiating. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow at the San Albino Catholic Cemetery. PDF Printable Version
