George Thomas Jackovich Sr, 90, of las Cruces, passed away Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012. He was born may 28, 1921 in Flatwood, MO., to John and Anna Jackovich. He was a proud veteran of the US Army where he served our country honorably in the US 82nd Airborne in numerous battle campaigns during WWII to defeat the Germans. He was a lifetime member of the American VFW and held various positions of membership over many years. George greatly enjoyed his family outings, the outdoors, big game hunting, fresh or salt water fishing, gardening and was a loyal and devoted member of the Catholic Church at St. Albert the Great Newman Center and San Albino Church in Mesilla, NM in earlier years. Mr. Jackovich will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved, or respected him. He passed away gently at home in the arms of his devoted wife, Tulley. Family members were present so George was never alone up to and until the end. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Esther (Tulley) Gamboa Jackovich of the family home, sons, Tim Jackovich and wife Renee of Tejadas, NM, Christopher Jackovich of Albuqueque, NM, John Francis Jackovich and companion Karen of Edgewood, NM, George T. Jackovich Jr. of Las Cruces, NM and Fred Barncastle of Las Cruces, NM, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Dorothy Wozniak of Clearwater, Florida and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by brothers, Ted, John, Mike, Steve, Nick, Joe, Andy, and Frank as well as sisters, Ann, Mary, and Helen. At George's request, cremation has taken place and Memorial Funeral Mass will be at 2:30 PM on Monday January 30, 2012 at St. Albert the Great Newman Center, 2615 S. Solano, Las Cruces with Fr. Mitch Dowalgo officiating. Inurnment will follow at St. Albert the Great Columbarium. Honorary pallbearers will be George Thomas Jackovich Jr, Christopher Jackovich, John Francis Jackovich, Rose Mary Marviack, and Fred Barncastle. A small family and friends reception is to be held at Josephina's Gate Caf
