Gloria L. Carrillo, 87, of Las Cruces entered eternal life Tuesday, May 10, at MountainView Regional Medical Center surrounded by her many loved ones after bravely battling a sudden decline in health. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Edward B. Carrillo Sr.; three daughters, Priscilla Lpez (Andres), Diane Sandoval (Larry) and Sandie Chavez; three sons, Edward Carrillo Jr. (Susie), Lorenzo Carrillo and Orlando Carrillo; one brother, Mike Lucero Sr. (Loretta); and one sister, Rosella Lucero. Other survivors include 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Born in Mesilla, New Mexico, on April 19, 1935, to Balthazar and Isabel Lucero, Gloria was one of eight children in a family with deep ties to the Mesilla Valley. Growing up, she had a natural talent for dancing and often performed on special occasions in her community. She married the love of her life, Edward, on Sept. 25, 1954, and they raised six children together. Gloria led a joyous and fulfilling life as the center of her close-knit family - her greatest source of pride. Generous with her time and love, she welcomed all into her home with open arms and was a selfless person who put the needs of others above her own. She devoted her life to her children and husband, who always kept her busy. She filled her days cooking, crocheting and embroidering, working as a trusted child-sitter, caring for her many pets, and visiting friends, neighbors and relatives. But she was happiest spending time in the company of close family and watching over her cherished grandchildren, who lovingly called her Grandma Gloria. She enjoyed traveling and took her family on many road trips and camping excursions throughout New Mexico, California, Colorado and other places. Later in life, she traveled to Germany and made several trips to Las Vegas and Laughlin, Nevada, where she made lifelong friends and found too much joy in playing the slot machines. She was the life of any party and loved dancing, singing and dressing up for any occasion. She made countless family gatherings all the more fun and memorable with her love of life and family. She was a devout Catholic who believed in the power of prayer and was a longtime parishioner of St. Genevieve Catholic Church. Gloria remained a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother until her death. Those mourning her will fondly remember her warm smile, spirited laugh and giving nature. Her grandchildren will miss playing card games with their grandmother and eating her homemade tortillas, tamales, gorditas and biscochos. She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings Consuelo Salas, Raul Lucero, Felicitas Ramirez, Baltazar Lucero Jr. and Irma Rodriguez, and great-granddaughter Bree Rigales. Please join family members as they gather to honor Gloria's life by praying the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. Friday, May 27, at Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E.
