Gloria "Yoya" Medina was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. She passed away on January 27, 2022, at age 71 in Las Cruces, NM.

Yoya was born to Randolfo and Rebeca Rascon on April 18, 1950 in Los Algodones, Mexico. She completed her bachelors degree at New Mexico State University in Economics, Latin American Studies, and Foreign Langages. Through a mutual friend while attending the university, she met the love of her life Carlos Medina and with his persistence they got married in 1988.

In 1997 they moved to Chipley, Florida where she discovered her love of teaching after being offered a position as a Spanish teacher for the local high school. As someone who was very proud of her culture and native language, she didn't let the walls of her classroom stop her from sharing her immense knowledge of them to others, always offering her time and resources to anyone who needed them. She would go on to teach hundreds of students until she retired in 2011.

The simplest pleasures in life made Yoya the happiest. She loved taking care of her plants, staying in and watching her Spanish telenovelas, and taking her dog Dixie on walks. Her biggest joy in life though was spending time with her family. Yoya loved her nightly dinners with her husband and daughter or going out to eat with her siblings and nieces and nephews. Her favorite time of the year were the holidays when most of the family gathered together in one home to celebrate together. Any chance she had to be near or speak to them she would take it in a heartbeat.

Yoya is survived by her husband Carlos and daughter Ana Gabriela Medina. She is also survived by her brothers Jorge Rascon and wife Gloria and Danny Rascon and wife Debbie, her sisters Alicia McCarty and husband Carl and Rebecca Aguilar along with her many nephews and nieces and their children. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister Maria Concepcion "Concha" Gray.
