Guadalupe (Lupe) Gonzales Salazar passed away peacefully in her home in Las Cruces, New Mexico, on June 15th, 2021 at the age of 79. Lupe was born April 5, 1942 in Las Cruces, New Mexico at the Memorial Hospital. Lupe is preceded in death by her parents, Miguel Gonzales and Guadalupe Marin Gonzales, her brothers Eugenio Gonzales and Miguel Gonzales, her sister Mary Bellman, and her nephews Cipriano Bernal and David Gonzales. She married Juan L. Salazar on November 2,1964 in Las Cruces where they spent the next 57 years of their lives together working in their community and raising a beautiful family. Lupe was employed at the Hanes L'eggs plant as a seamstress, the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in the manufacturing plant, and was a bus driver for the Las Cruces public school district until she resigned to become a full-time caregiver for her mother until her passing. Lupe's favorite job was volunteering as a catechism teacher at Saint Genevieve's Catholic Church. She loved teaching children about God and the bible-she was extremely passionate about teaching the word of God to everyone she met and no one was a stranger in her eyes. She welcomed neighborhood children into her home offering them food and taught them the word of God in the hopes that they would all become good stewards of the Lord and share her kindness with others. Lupe had many hobbies but was truly passionate about cooking delicious Mexican food like menudo, tamales, red and green chili, enchiladas, and her amazing rice and beans. She would often make her traditional biscochos during holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas or anytime someone requested them. Lupe loved to crochet blankets, beanie hats, kitchen towels, and other useful items for her household and family. She was highly creative and loved to do arts and crafts like drawing and coloring. She loved to play checkers and enjoyed a good challenging game with friends and family. Most of all, Lupe loved listening to music, especially Christian music and the songs of Vicente Fernndez. Lupe is survived by her husband, Juan L. Salazar of Las Cruces; her five children, Frances Moore and husband Gerald of Mesilla Park, Minerva Sanders and husband Dean of El Paso, Texas, Sandra Rogers and husband Chris of Moore, Oklahoma, Johnny Salazar and wife Connie of Las Cruces, and Crystal Salazar and Roberto Duran of Las Cruces. Lupe loved her family, especially her twelve grandchildren; Tristen Salazar, Amanda Patrick, Naomi Salazar, Robert Michael Gray, Joshua Gray, Kelly Rogers, Melissa Salazar, Jacob Salazar, Louie Barba, Kyle Rogers, Jaidyn Duran, Xander Duran; and nine great-grandchildren, Hailey, Uriah, Elijah, Maddox, Jazmin, Isabella, Dusty, Darren, and Jayce. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Blanca Gonzales, Daniel Gonzales, Lisa Bernal, Rachel Florez, Arturo Bernal, Donny Gonzales, Michael Bellman, Christina Archuleta, Amy Gonzales, Michelle Gonzales, Veronica Gonzales, Patricia Metz, Samantha Gonzales, Chasidy Sharp, Danica Gonzales, Choch Gonzales, Jason Martinez, and many others. Family was the most important part of Lupe's life. She found so much joy to gather the family for the holidays and birthdays. One of her favorite quotes was "Our family is a circle of strength and love, with every birth and every union, the circle grows, every crisis faced together makes the circle stronger."
