Harriet "Mimi" Marie Cognasi, 76, of Las Cruces passed away on Monday, July 21, 2014 at home. Mimi was born October 23, 1937 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Sherman A. Adamson and Bluie Adamson Starr. She married to John Peter Cognasi in Florence Arizona in1955, Mimi went back to High school in her thirties and Graduated at Alhambra High School in Phoenix Arizona. Mimi was a full time homemaker and mother who loved to sew and bead jewelry, she also loved to shoot .22 rifles and was a great shot. She was a member of the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and one time Relief Society President. Mimi was very proud of being part of the Cherokee Tribe. She is survived by her family; Johnny Paul Cognasi, Julia M Cognasi, Juli Ricken, Jorge Ricken, Lori Greco, John Greco, Ricky Cognasi, Pam Cognasi. Mimi is also survived by her grandchildren; Shauna Varela, Stephanie Gonzales, Jacob Thornquist, Michael Ricken, Tony Cognasi, John Peter Cognasi II, Nick Greco, Andrew Greco, Matthew Myers; her great grandchildren, Emma Varela, Chase Varela, Hailey Gonzales, Kiley Gonzales, James Myers,Sophia Myers. She was preceded in death by her parents Sherman A. Adamson and Bluie Adamson Starr, and her husband, Johnny Peter Cognasi in September 21, 1998. Visitation will be Monday July 28, 2014 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 3210 Venus St, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, with funeral services to follow at 1:00 pm with Bishop Jim New. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Serving as casket bearers; Tony Cognasi, John Peter Cognasi II, Nick Greco, Andrew Greco, Jacob Thornquist, and Paul Jerome.
