Helen Louise Boyer Fletcher was born November 25, 1926 in Vado, New Mexico. She was the oldest daughter of Hobart Delano Boyer and Bessie Shivers Boyer, granddaughter of Frank and Ella Boyer. She graduated from Dunbar High School in Vado and attended New Mexico State University for two and a half years, majoring in Business Administration. She married Thomas Fletcher in 1946. She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas, four daughters: Linda Fletcher, Bessie Fletcher, Karen Richardson (Yaseen Abdassalaam) and Pamela Fletcher, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, six great- great-grandchildren; eight siblings: Clara Sims, Hercules Boyer (Gertrude), Aristotle Boyer (Jeanette), Pauline Hunt (Harold), Olene Boyer, Olin Boyer, Henry Boyer (Marva) and Yvonne Boyer; three sister-in-laws: Jewel Irons, Freddie Fielder and Gladys Kennedy (Joe), a host of nieces, nephews, friends and her Bethel family. She was a teacher's assistant for 25 years at Washington and Conlee Elementary Schools until retiring in 1988. She joined Bethel Second Baptist Church in 1958 and dedicated her life to serving the Lord faithfully in her various role as a pianist and a devotional leader of the Mary C. Bradford Circle. She was active in her community serving as Secretary of the P.T.A. for Washington Elementary School, N.A.A.C.P. , Church Women United, Retired Teachers' Association and volunteered as a poll worker. She loved gardening, sewing and playing the piano. We rejoice and celebrate that she's reunited with her parents and her two deceased children, Jerry and Tessie, sitting next to her Heavenly Father. A viewing will be held at 10 am, Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Bethel 2nd Baptist Church, located at 405 E. Hadley, followed by a Funeral Service at 11 am. Burial will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the service. Arrangements are with Getz Funeral Home 1410 E. Bowman Ave., Las Cruces NM 88001.
