Helen Simpson Waguespack, 90, of Las Cruces died Thursday July 12, 2007. She was born August 4, 1916 in Minneapolis, Kansas to Robert C. Simpson and Myrtle E. Vanderplant. She graduated from High School in Valley Falls, Kansas. Obtained her (R.N.) Nursing Degree form Kirksville, MO, in 1937. She practiced her profession in Brown's Hospital Nebraska City, Nebraska, Peterson Hospital Marfa, Texas. Was employed 18 months in the Army Hospital at Ft. D.A. Russell, Marfa. Did private duty and Red Cross nursing in Modesta, CA. Returned to Kansas and did first aid nursing and the Sunflower ordinance at Lawrence, Kansas. Returned to Texas in 1946. Was employed at the Alan E. Teague Veterans Center for 30 years. Retired October 1975. She married Roy R. Waguespack on June 30, 1940. He preceded her in death January 1987. She was married to Clement J. Waguespack November 1989. He died January 2000. She participated in Community (Temple) activities, was a member of AARP, NARFE, Plaza Forum, District #7 Nurses Association, helped in organizing future nurses clubs in the High Schools of Bell County, Texas, member of the Book Review Club, the Kings daughters Auxiliary. Joined the Grace Presbyterian Church in Temple. Transferred her membership to the First Presbyterian Church, Las Cruces, NM in 1997. She is survived by 2 stepdaughters, Nita Elrod and husband Charles of Las Cruces and Gladys Ann Chadwell of San Antonio, TX, seven step-grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren and by many nieces and nephews of Kansas and Nebraska. Her two brothers Dr. Charles Simpson and Bob Simpson preceded Helen in death. Private memorial services to celebrate her life will be held at Getz Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Marcus Burr officiating. Burial of her cremains will take place at a later date at the Bellwood Cemetery in Memorial Park, Temple, Texas. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of choice.
