Herbert L. Northrop, MD, died May 2, 2008. He was born November 18, 1929 in Poughkeepsie, New York. He gained his BSc at Fordham University in the Bronx of New York and earned his MD at Hahnemann Medical College, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1955 he entered private practice at the Lansdale Medical Group and remained with them until becoming plant physician of Philco-Ford Corp. in Lansdale in 1969. He later became associate medical director of Ford Motor Company, then in 1975 he joined Stauffer Chemical Company, in Westport, Connecticut as director, occupational medicine. He remained with Stauffer until 1988 when he joined ICI Americas Inc., which later became AstraZeneca, Inc. He retired from AstraZeneca, Inc. in February 1998. During his career as an Occupational Physician, he was a member of the American Medical Association, a fellow of the American College of Occupational Health and Environmental Physicians, a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Public Health Association.
