Heriberto "Herbie" Juan Hernandez, 42, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, was called into eternal life on Monday January 11, 2022. John, as he preferred to be called, was born in Las Cruces, NM on January 25, 1979, to Heriberto and Antonia Hernandez. His birth brought such great joy and showed his parents and grandparents the true meaning of everlasting love. John grew up in Las Cruces, where he attended Mayfield High School. He travelled the country for many years and finally came home to live out the remaining years of his life. John was so much more than his struggles. He loved an adventure and was willing to venture outside of his zone. He never knew a stranger and would always make you feel welcome. He would do anything for a laugh and always enjoyed a good dare. Anyone that truly knew him, knew he had such a big heart and could make you laugh - even when you were mad at him. Family was everything to John and he missed them dearly as the pandemic kept them apart. Although his brother, Jaime, was unable to be there, Christmas 2021 was magical, his heart rejoiced as he was finally able to spend time with those he loved most. Our gatherings will undoubtably be a few decibels quieter without his infectious laugh; something we never want to get used to. He loved fiercely and deeply, and we take comfort in knowing that John is now at peace surrounded by light. He will be greatly missed, and his memory engraved in our hearts forever. John is survived by his parents, Heriberto and Antonia Hernandez; brother Jaime Hernandez of Kaiserslautern; sister Adriana Sutton and husband Jared, nephews James and Lucas, and niece Alyssa, all of Phoenix, Arizona. His surviving aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and longtime friends are too numerous to count and were all cherished - He loved his family and friends. Preceding him in death were his maternal grandparents, Eduardo Padilla and Adela Padilla Ortiz; paternal grandparents, Juan and Maria Hernandez and Luciano and Carmen Hernandez; Great Grandparents, Juan and Cesaria Montoya, Aunt, Rosa Chairez; Uncle, Leo Montoya; cousins Savian, Veronica, Andrew, Gilbert Jr, Andres. Family may visit on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, from 5 pm to 7:00 pm at Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E. Bowman Ave, Las Cruces, NM. The Rosary will follow immediately after visitation. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine and Parish, 3600 Parroquia Street in Tortugas.
