Herminia (Minnie) Telles Guzman age 91 passed away peacefully the morning of Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at the Adobe Assisted Living Center in Las Cruces, NM. She slept the night and awoke with her Heavenly Father, greeted by her parents and husband Mike. Minnie was a woman of strong Christian faith and was a lifelong parishioner of St. Genevieve's Catholic Church. Minnie was the third of seven children born to Francisco Telles and Sofia Triviz on December 28, 1921 in Las Cruces, NM. Her 6 siblings are sisters Vestina, Sofia, Rosie and brothers Sammie, Rudy and Frank. The family is descendant of two of the early Las Cruces resident families. Minnie graduated from Union High School in class of 1939. She married Pedro F. Valverde on April 6, 1942 and from marriage union her six children were born. She was united in marriage to Miguel "Mike" Guzman from July 1966 until his death in 2009. Minnie was a civilian employee with the Department of Defense for 35 years at the White Sands Missile Range and retired from civil service in February 1982. Following her retirement Minnie enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing with her husband Mike. She was preceded in death by her parents Francisco and Sofia, husband Miguel Guzman and brothers Sammie and Rudy Telles, a grandson Manuel Valverde, Jr., and great-grandson Luis Valverde III. Minnie is survived by her sisters, Vestina Rodriguez, Sophia Nervaez, Rosie Voltz, and brother Frank Telles; children, Mercedes Chavez (Edmundo), Pedro Valverde (Olga), Luis Valverde (Barbara), Manuel Valverde (Irma), Gloria Frausto (Luis) and Antonio Valverde (Cynthia); 11 grandchildren; Frank Garcia, Irene Garcia, Denise Valverde, Vanessa Valverde Perez, Erica Valverde, Luis Valverde, Jr., Melissa Valverde, Eileen Valverde, Cindy Chavez and Michael and Arthur Frausto. Eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild and several beloved nieces and nephews. Special recognition and thanks should be extended to the administration, the medical staff and especially to all the caregivers at the Adobe Assisted Living Center for their compassionate care and tenderness given to our mother Minnie. During her residence at The Adobe, they became an extension of her family and good friends to her daughter Gloria. Also, the most heartfelt appreciation is given to the staff of the Mesilla Valley Hospice for the wonderful hospice care in the last few weeks and last but not least, Dr. Conchita Paz, for the wonderful medical care provided to Minnie over many years. Their compassionate assistance in the funeral arrangements by the staff of Getz Funeral Home is greatly appreciated. Rosary services will be held on Monday, August 12, 2013 at 7 p.m. at the Getz Funeral Home in Las Cruces, New Mexico. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the St. Genevieve's Catholic Church. Following the funeral mass, graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Minnie's grandchildren Frank Garcia, Irene Garcia, Denise Valverde, Vanessa Perez, Luis Valverde, Jr. and Arthur Frausto.
