Our beloved mother, Minnie V. Barreras, went home to be with our Lord on January 2, 2014. She was born October 21, 1926 to Escolastico Valdez and Rafielita telles Valdez in Garfield, New Mexico. Our beloved mother, Minnie V. Barreras, went home to be with our Lord on January 2, 2014. She was born October 21, 1926 to Escolastico Valdez and Rafielita telles Valdez in Garfield, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her Husband of 41 years, Tommy P. Barreras, two sisters, Emma Sarabia and Amalia Velarde, a brother Mike Valdez, a brother after death, Selso Valdez. Minnie is survived by two brothers, Carlos Valdez and Juan Valdez; her children, Rose Marie Mares, and husband Danny, Soyla Ward, Cecilia Arvizu and husband Art, and Joe (Tiny) Barrereas and wife Ida. She had twelve grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren. Minnie was active in her community helping in the kitchen at the American Legion. She was president of the Women's Auxiliary for many years. She helped in the election polls and was in the St. Genevieve's church choir. She was also a daycare provider for many years, many of the children called her "Grandma." She loved to crochet, play bingo and tend to her flowers.
