Ignacio P Luera Jr.

July 16, 1941 — January 11, 2014

Ignacio (Nacho) Luera, 72, of Las Cruces, passed away January 11, 2014. With family and friends by his side, Nacho was called to his eternal home by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Nacho was born on July 16, 1941 to Ignacio and Julia Luera of Canutillo, Texas. After spending his youth in Canutillo, Nacho moved to Las Cruces and began working for the City of Las Cruces as a heavy equipment operator in 1962. After over 31 years of dedicated employment, Nacho retired as a general foreman with the Streets Department in 1993. Nacho's committed service was honored with the then newly developed street off Foothills, Nacho Drive. Nacho is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lupe Luera; sons Rudy Luera of Las Cruces, Charles (D'Nene) Luera of Belen, special Goddaughter Ashley Sullivan of Las Cruces, six grandchildren; Matthew (Jessica), Joseph, Angel, Adam, Drew and Daryn Luera and one great granddaughter, Allison Julia Luera. Nacho is also survived by three sisters, Lee Vincent, Delia (Beto) Gomez, Nellie Luera, one brother Raymundo (Nikko), and in-laws; brothers, Dickie (Landie) and Sam (Lisa) Benavidez, sisters, Emma (Joe) Medina, Virginia (Manny) Altamirano, Martha (Memo) Garcia and many caring nieces and nephews. Nacho was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, and his father and mother-in-law, Ricardo and Jennie Benavidez. Nacho was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral. He enjoyed dancing in his youth, watching the Dallas Cowboys play, tending to his garden and spending time with his family and friends. Nacho will always be remembered for his sense of humor. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we spent with him. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Tina Guevara RN and members of AmberCare Hospice. Their dedication to provide quality care over the last 4 months has been a heartwarming blessing to his entire family. Visitation will be held Wednesday January 15, 2014 at Getz Funeral Home from 6:00
