Ila Rae Holcomb

Ila Rae Holcomb, 77, a very proud military wife, died March 4, 2013, peacefully and with her children at her side. She was born Jan. 17, 1936 in Alamosa, CO to Paul and Maebelle Maupin Gentry. She worked for the NM Highway Department and Los Alamos National Lab. Ila was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and VFW Post 6917, she also enjoyed sports, horse racing, reading and doing puzzles. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Donald Eugene Holcomb, her parents Paul and Maebell Gentry, and her brother, George Vane Gentry. Ila is survived by her son Gary Holcomb and wife Lori of Canyon TX; daughters Rena Smith and husband Chester of Santa Fe, NM and Lisa Wasson and husband John of Las Cruces; sisters LuAnn Van deValde of Moriarity, NM and Jolene Gomez of Rio Rancho, NM; grandchildren Steve Smith and wife Jennifer, Shanna Thronas and husband Andrew, Adam Holcomb, Austin Holcomb and Michael Wasson and wife Sarina and by her 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the VFW Post #6917, 5845 Bataan Memorial West, Las Cruces, NM.
