Julian Jimmy Nevarez Sr., 71, of Las Cruces was called to be with God on Wednesday, December 2, 2015. Jimmy was born on September 4, 1944, in Dona Ana, New Mexico to Benjamin and Cecilia Nevarez. Jimmy was self-employed. He owned and operated his family businesses Nevarez Over the Counter & Custom Cutting Meat Market and Red Devil Fireworks for over 35 years. He took great pride in serving his customers with a genuine spirit that made him the caring business owner he was. He was not just a business owner; he was a cheerful friend to anyone who walked through his doors. He attended Las Cruces High School, where he met his lovely bride to be, Dolores Nevarez. He and Dolores were married on December 30, 1961 and happily married for 54 years. Together, they had 4 children, who they raised with love and care, Deborah (Leroy) Nevarez-Baca, Johnnie (Belle) Nevarez, Richard Nevarez, and Jimmy (Heather) Nevarez Jr. He patiently shared and taught his children and grandchildren his skills and his love for the outdoors. Together they learned and loved to ride horses, camp, hunt, and fish. He proudly showed them the simplicity of life, the rewards for a hard days work, reasoning to differentiate between right and wrong, and most importantly how to keep family first and love one another. He endlessly spoke of how proud he was of his children and grandchildren. Jimmy was not only a father to his children's friends, but also a father to the community he served. He was the most selfless person we have ever known. He brought joy and happiness to many without asking for anything in return. He is a true angel of God and was an active parishioner at Saint Genevieve Roman Catholic Church and attended mass regularly. He was a strong man, a loving and caring husband and father, who fought diligently for the last ten years to be in our presence after his accident. Now with extreme sadness in our hearts, our Heavenly Father has called upon him to serve in a higher and more joyous capacity. He can now begin his eternal life and look over his family once again. Jimmy is survived by his spouse, 4 children, 13 grandchildren (Jimmy III, Jessica, Felicity, Johnathan, Nicole, Ashley, Christopher, Ariana, Linnea Nevarez, Victoria Balderrama, Ryan Baca, Mia and David Granillo), and 2 great-grand children (Ezekiel Nevarez and Ezra Balderrama); his mother-in-law Elsie Fresquez, sister-in-law Melva Granillo, his siblings Lupe (John) Camacho-Nieman, Margarita Tellez, George (Mary) Nevarez, Freddy Nevarez, Andres Nevarez, and Annette Gutierrez. Clara Nevarez - Sanchez( Hefita) who along with with his brother David took him in, when he was a child and raised him as their own. Along with many nieces, nephews, and God children. Preceded in death are his parents (Benjamin and Cecilia Nevarez), and his 5 brothers (David, Ramon, Jesus, Edward, and Ben Nevarez), and father-in-law Quirino Fresquez. Pallbearers will be his three sons (Johnnie, Richard, and Jimmy Jr. Nevarez), his two grandsons Jimmy III and Johnathan Nevarez, son-in-law Leroy Baca, nephews Albert Camacho Jr., Rocky and Jack Nevarez, Stevie and David Granillo.
