Ivan Scott Taylor, age 89, died Monday, March 31, 2008 at Good Samaritan. On May 29, 1918, Scott was born to a pioneering New Mexico family in Carrizozo. His parents were Julian M. Taylor, a blacksmith, and Gussita Kastler. Scott is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia; one son, David and his wife Linda; one daughter, Janis Newman; granddaughter Lindsay and husband Brian Belanich; grandson David Scott Taylor; great-granddaughter Taylor Eastwood Belanich and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, J. R. and Kastler. Scott graduated from Las Cruces High School and New Mexico A & M with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He was a member of the Aggie tennis team and president of Phi Chi Psi. During WWII, he served in the US Army in Washington, DC in the Office of the Chief of the Chemical Warfare Service and was instrumental in the establishment of Dugway Proving Ground in Utah. In 1951 he and his family moved to Blythe, California where from barren land, he developed a successful farming and cattle operation. After returning to Las Cruces in 1965 he worked for Zia at the NASA Site. Upon retirement, he stayed involved in his childrens' businesses and remained very active with his passions of woodworking and playing bridge. He was a true gentleman and his enthusiasm, wit and kindness will be sorely missed by his family, many friends and, of course, his beloved dog, Tucker. A Memorial Service will take place at Getz Funeral Home, Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 10:30 AM. A reception for family and friends will follow at the family farm. PDF Printable Version
