Jeanetta "Jan" M. Dale, 84, died at Mesilla Valley Hospice, Sunday, October 12, 2014. She was born in Flora, Illinois, July 8, 1930 to Cecil Mae and William Martin. She had a sister, Jeanine, and a brother Marvin. She married Robert Ackison and had one child, Parron. She divorced in 1973 and moved to Las Cruces in 1974. She married Richard Dale in 1976. Their marriage was "book-ended" by trips to the British Isles and a river cruise on the Rhine. She entered NMSU about forty years after high school and received a BA in 1980. Her principal occupation was selling. She sold everything from shoes to fabric. After graduation from NMSU she was one of the first area managers at Dillards and helped set up the store when it opened. She loved flowers and singing. Later in life, allergies to fragrances forced her to avoid any plant that had an odor. She had a lovely voice and sang in church choirs from the time she was a child until lung problems forced her to stop. She survived lymphoma three times. She liked to sew and made many of her clothes as well as embroidery projects. Together Richard and Jan were privileged to visit 37 states as a part to her love of traveling. Her parents and sister predeceased her. She is survived by her husband, Richard, her son Parron, her brother Marvin, and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Cowboys for Cancer, the Mesilla Valley Hospice, or University Presbyterian Church. A visitation is scheduled to take place on Monday, October 20, 2014 from 5-6pm at Getz Funeral Home. Funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 10am at University Presbyterian Church of Las Cruces, with interment immediately following at Masonic Cemetery.
