Jack Byron Sharp, 86, was born on January 22, 1919, in Blanchard, Oklahoma. He died on January 30, 2005, in Albuquerque, NM. He is survived by his son-in-law, Gary Moore, of Albuquerque; his grandchildren Dr. David Moore and wife Dr. Jenny Moore of Nashville, TN; Melissa Taylormoore and husband Dr. Jonathan Taylormoore, of Falls Church, VA; and Jack, Benjamin, and Margaret Knorr of Artesia, NM. He is preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Robbie Lee Sharp; and his children, Laura Lee Moore and Debra Lynn Sharp Knorr. After graduating from the University of Texas, El Paso, Jack served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Supply Officer in Okinawa. Upon returning from the war, he built his life around his work and family. He ran Sharp Oil Company for 51 years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Both he and Robbie developed lifelong friends throughout Las Cruces and El Paso that brought many years of joy and happiness. Jack dedicated much of his time not only to his family and friends, but also to his community. He served on the First National Bank Board of Directors for more than 20 years; served on the Anthony School Board; was on the Board of Directors at Mutual Building & Loan in Las Cruces for 20 years; was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry; was a member of Masonic Lodge #48 in Anthony, New Mexico; and was a member of the Rotary Club for over thirty-five years, receiving a Paul Harris Fellow Award in 1999. Jack was loved for his laughter, warmth and generosity. While he will be missed, we know he is at peace with his wife and children. Services will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2005, at St. James Episcopal Church at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Cannon Brian C. Hobden will preside over the ceremony. A viewing will be held at Getz Funeral Home on Friday, February 4, 2005, from 5:00-7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to St. James Episcopal Church, or to the charity of your choice. PDF Printable Version
