Jack Lathrop Rogers, 89 passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006. Jack was born Sept. 10, 1916 to Walter and Myrtle Lathrop Rogers on a homestead near Isabel, S.D. He graduated from Sturgis High School, S.D. He attended Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, S.D. for one year. He served as an orderly at Ft. Meade Military Post, Sturgis, S.D. and then hitchhiked to Emporia, KS to attend Newman Memorial Hospital Nursing School, graduating in 1940; he earned a BA in Business from College of Emporia in 1945. During WW II he worked as the First Aide Nurse at the Chevrolet Plant that made shells in Kansas City. He married Frances Louise Shull on June 1, 1940. Jack worked as a Hospital Administrator for 34 years, serving in hospitals in Emporia, KS, Belle Fourche, S.D. Sioux Falls, S.D. Las Cruces, NM, El Paso, TX and Carlsbad, NM. He served as preceptor for Interns in Hospital Administration from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX; on the board of Gordon Freeson Hospital Architects in Washington, DC; organized and was the first director of the South Dakota State Hospital Association; and worked with Dr. Roger Corbett to organize and implement the Nursing Program at NMSU. While in Sioux Falls he served as President of the Upper Midwest Hospital Association in 1962. He was inducted into the College of Hospital Administrators in August of 1967. He was a member, Sunday School Teacher and Deacon at First Baptist Church in Las Cruces. He is survived by his wife Frances; sons Charles W. Rogers (Patricia) Minneapolis, Jack E. Rogers Ruidoso, NM; daughters Trula E. Holstein (Ben) Las Cruces, Sheila K. Gloer (Hulitt) Waco, TX; sister Janet Wilkinson Tuxedo, NY. Eleven grandchildren fourteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters-Elaine Lyons and Jean Haws. Memorial Services will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, Jan. 30, 2006 at First Baptist Church with Jack's son-in-law Dr. Hulitt Gloer officiating. PDF Printable Version
