Jack D. Whitman 83, of Las Cruces, died Friday January 12, 2007. He was born May 7, 1923 in Phoenix City, Alabama to William and Florence Whitman. Jack was an avid sportsman who loved to hunting, and fishing. He loved to travel, taking his wife with him to Europe and Bangkok. Jack served his nation honorably, in the United States Air Force, from 1941-1945. During his service he fought in the Pacific Theater earning a bronze star. Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years Dolores Whitman, of the family home, one son Michael Whitman of Reno, Nevada, one sister Dollie Gean Robbins of Phoenix City, Alabama, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Florence Whitman, of Phoenix City, Alabama, and one brother Thomas Whitman, of Phoenix City, Alabama. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7:00 PM on Monday, January 16, 2006 at Getz Funeral Home where a Prayer Vigil will follow at 7:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2006 at 10:00 AM at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
