James Lynwood "Wimpy" Littlefield, a resident of Las Cruces for 44 years was called home to his Father on Sunday, February 24, 2008. Jim was born on August 6, 1937 in Tom Green County, TX to Ed and Lois (Duncan) Littlefield. He moved to NM when he was 2 years old. He grew up in various places in NM as the family followed Ed in his ranching jobs. He graduated in 1956 from Encino High School. He played center on the basketball team, which posted a record of 26-4 in the 1955 season. He married Barbara Ann Speer on September 17, 1955 in Santa Cruz, NM. Their daughter Debbie was born in 1956 and daughter Vickie was born in 1959. Jim retired from the NM State Highway department in 1987 after 25 years of service. Jim and his family were active members of the Mesilla Park Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church. He served in the deacon ministry of both churches for many years. He served the Rio Grande Baptist Association on the church extension committee during the planning and birth of East Mesa Baptist Church. A lifetime sports fan, Jim also enjoyed many years of volunteer service with the Roadrunner/Aggie softball program. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Lois, and his brothers Wayne, Carroll, and Victor. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara, daughter Debbie (John) Flowers, West Fargo, ND, and Vickie (Robert) Martinez, Las Cruces. Grandchildren Eric Flowers, United States Military Academy, West Point, NY and Sara Flowers, West Fargo, ND. Brother Dick (Pat) Littlefield, Sierra Vista, AZ. Sisters-in-law Bonnie Littlefield of Las Vegas, NV and Ellen Calkins of Rogue River, OR. 3 nephews and 5 nieces. Funeral Services to celebrate his life will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008 at Getz Funeral Home with David Englehart, Director of the Baptist Student Union officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be his family and friends.
