James Richard Smith, 57 of Las Cruces, NM died Monday February 14, 2005 at his home. James was born September 11, 1947 in San Bernardino, California. James graduated from Eisenhower High School in Rialto, CA in 1965 and then entered in to the US Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged after combat duty in Vietnam at the rank of Sergeant E-5. James received his B.A. degree in Social Sciences from San Francisco State University and his M.A. degree in Applied Psychology from California State University. He was currently employed with Southwest Counseling Center, Inc. as a clinical mental health counselor. James is survived by his wife Francesca; three sons Justin Dudek and his wife Debbie of Lehi, Utah and their two children Taylor and Rebekah; Stephen Smith and his wife Amanda of Rancho Santa Margarita, California and Christopher Smith of Las Cruces, New Mexico. Two sisters, Diana Smith of Wichita, Kansas and Anne Martinez and her husband Joe of Rialto, California and their son Nathaniel. Also surviving him are two brothers, Ross Smith of Washington State and Tom Harrison of Riverside, California and two grandchildren, Taylor and Rebekah Dudek. At James' request cremation has taken place and a Prayer Vigil will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, February 17, 2005 at Getz Funeral Home Chapel. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, February 18, 2005 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral with Fr. Robert Power officiating.
