Janice Carr

Janice Elizabeth Carr was born November 20, 1953, at the Fort Jackson military base hospital in Columbia, SC, to Homer and Miriam Thom. She died on March 19, 2021, at her home in Las Cruces, surrounded by her family, after a second lengthy battle with cancer. She was 67 years old. Janice graduated from Irvin High School, El Paso, Texas, in 1971. She attended Culver City Bible School from 1971-1972. She spent 10 months in Torreon, Mexico working with a missionary family. While there she developed a desire to continue serving the Lord Jesus Christ by joining an overseas missions team. She applied to Literature Crusades in 1973 and during the nine month training period she met her future husband, Conant Carr. They served together on a missions team in Ecuador. Janice and Conant were married on April 27, 1975, in El Paso, Texas and were married for 45 years. They set up their first home in Longview, Texas where they began a family and both Janice and Conant attended Letourneau University in preparation for future ministry. In 1978, Janice and Conant moved to Portland, Oregon, where Conant attended Western Conservative Baptist Theological Seminary. In 1983, they made the decision to join In Faith and chose to settle in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Their ministry included camp work, Vacation Bible School, children's ministry, and small group Bible studies until her husband entered into law enforcement ministry for the next 30 years. While in Las Cruces, the Lord blessed them with a total of five children. Janice was actively involved in her children's education; beginning with homeschooling, all five children eventually graduated from Mesilla Valley Christian School. This allowed Janice an active role in MVCS teaching computer, creating and editing the school newsletter, and managing the MVCS snack bar for many years. In 2008, Janice decided to turn all her attention to being a full time grandmother. Janice's first love has always been her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her second love was her husband, children, and grandchildren. She poured her life into supporting and encouraging her husband. Her passion was teaching and training her children and grandchildren and raising them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Janice is survived by her Husband, Conant Carr, and her five children: Nathan Carr, Las Cruces, NM; Rachel Carr Blacklock, Las Cruces, NM; Stephen Carr, Fort Worth, TX; Jason Carr, Las Cruces, NM; Sarah Carr Ratheal, Las Cruces, NM, and their families. She is also survived by her 16 grandchildren as well as four siblings: Jeanne Obee of Rockford, IL; Col. Brian Thom of Ft. Worth, TX; Jonathan Thom of Portland, OR; Ruth Wainwright of Norridgewock, ME; and a host of nieces and nephews. We are grateful to Las Cruces and its many residents and friends who have helped to make it our 37 year here a home.
