Jean Marie Banks Apodaca, 46 of Las Cruces, NM died Thursday November 4, 2010. She was born in Davenport, Iowa to William and Josephine Banks on July 10, 1964. Jean graduated from Goddard High School in Roswell, New Mexico in May of 1982. After high school she attended New Mexico State University graduating with a B.S. in Accounting in 1986 and later returning to N.M.S.U. to work on her Master's in Education graduating with Honors in 1998. In her free time Jean enjoyed reading, stitchery, volleyball and bowling. She was a member of N.E.A. and was an A.E.S. facilitator for the Las Cruces Public Schools beginning her 12th year. During that time Jean worked at many schools within the District but most recently Columbia and Fairacres Elementary Schools. She was a devoted Catholic and a member of St Albert the Great Newman Center. Her greatest pride and joy were the accomplishments of her two sons and the many students whose lives she touched. Jean is survived by her sons, Andy and Danny Apodaca, of Albuquerque, NM, mother Josephine Banks of Las Cruces, NM, sister Karen Lupien and husband Todd of Roswell, NM, brothers, Mike Banks and Tom and wife Cassie Banks all of Las Cruces, NM, aunts Mary Jane Kuemmerle of Indianapolis, Indiana and Mary Jo Dadaian of Davenport, Iowa, and nieces, Katherine and Cynthia Lupien, and Annie and Baylee Banks. She was preceded in death by her father, William T. Banks. Her brothers, Mike and Tom Banks, are her honorary pallbearers. Jean was able to assist with the plans for her services by asking members of her family to participate. A prayer vigil lead by her aunt, Mary Jane Kuemmerle, will be at 7:00 pm on Friday November 12, 2010 at St Albert the Great Newman Center. Her sons and nieces will help with the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 13, 2010 also at St Albert the Great Newman Center with Fr. Mitch Dowalgo officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later time at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the AES Camp Invention program.
