Jennetta Bell Murphy, 84 of Las Cruces, formerly of Roswell, N.M., passed away Friday, February 11, at the Good Samaritan in Las Cruces. She was born March 28, 1920, in Superior, NE, to J Leonard and Freda E (Gilchrest) Willcox. Her family moved to Colorado in 1922, and to Greeley in 1929 where she graduated from Greeley High (now Central High School) in 1938 and went to Colorado Teachers College (now University of Northern Colorado) for two years. She married Lester Wayne Murphy on May 26, 1944 in Greeley, CO. He passed away April 13, 1984. She worked at the Prisoner of War Camp in Greeley during 1944-45. They moved to Denver in 1945 and then to Roswell, N.M in 1947. Jennetta was very active in the First United Methodist Church for many years, teaching Sunday school, in Women's Circle, and as Kindergarten Superintendent. She was also active in Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Little League, PTA, taught junior bowling and was room mother. She was President of the Chaves County Extension Club, helped at the County Fairgrounds, and was a Voting Judge. She moved to Las Cruces in 1993 to be closer to family. She was active in the St. Paul's United Methodist Church, in Women's Circle and played in the bell choir. She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Lint and husband Larry of Greeley, CO, and Janet Baker and husband David of Las Cruces; two sons, Michael Murphy and wife Evie of Independence, KS and John Murphy and wife Carol of Show Low, AZ; grandchildren Debbie, Sharon, Steven, Thomas, Ellen, Patrick, Shay, and Misti; fourteen great-grandchildren. Jennetta is also survived by two sisters, Ruth McEwen of Mission Viejo, CA; Genevieve Hoglund and husband Bob of Cottonwood, AZ; two brothers, Ray Willcox of Pearce, AZ; Ralph Willcox and wife Barbara of Hesperia, CA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, a brother-in-law, and a sister-in-law. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Tuesday February 15, 2005 at Getz Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11AM Wednesday February 16, 2005 at South Park Cemetery in Roswell, NM. The family requests that donations be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice 299 E.
