Jeremy "Jaye" Hernandez, 30, of Las Cruces, died Saturday, March 15, 2008. He was born Jan. 27, 1978 in Las Cruces to Rudy and Eileen Frietze Hernandez. Jaye served his country honorably in the Army as a Staff Sergeant. His military tour was mostly in the Middle East as a sniper and airborne ranger serving in the 82nd Airborne Infantry Division, after returning to the states he was a presidential guard with the Old Guard in Washington, DC. After his military service he served 7 tours in Iraq as a private security contractor. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing with his grandfather, hunting and dancing. Jaye was also co-owner along with his wife Christina of Forever Sun Tanning Spa. He will be deeply missed by all his family and friends who knew and loved him. He is survived by is loving wife of 6 years Christina Hernandez of the family home; parents Rudy and Eileen Hernandez of Las Cruces; sister Bridgette Peiper and husband Joshua of Las Cruces and niece Farrah Noelani Peiper. Also surviving Jaye are his paternal grandmother Maria Hernandez and maternal grandmother Esperanza Frietze both of Las Cruces. Jaye was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Jose M. Hernandez and maternal grandfather N.C. "Cheno" Frietze and uncle Richard Hernandez. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral where a funeral mass will follow at 7 PM with the Most Rev. Ricardo Ramirez, C.S.B. officiating. Jaye's funeral service will be at 1 PM on Thursday, March 20, 2008 also at Immaculate Heart of Mary with Fr. Sean Garrity officiating. Rite of Committal will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be Paul Gamboa, Lawrence Montes, Fred Montez, Ernie Rel Sr., Donald Frietze and Jimmy R. Gomez.
