Retired Las Cruces Police Department Lieutenant Jerry Fariss passed away March 29, 2022, at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico after a short battle with pneumonia and a longer battle with Alzheimer's dementia and stroke. He was 76 years old. Jerry was born to George W. Fariss, Jr and Frances (Ausmus) Fariss on August 5, 1945, in Alexandria, Louisiana. He was the one and only, pride and joy child George and Fran had. Both George and Fran preceded him in death; George in 2002 and Fran in 2020. Jerry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Edie Fariss. His children are Dave (Becky) Fariss of Plainfield, Illinois; Dan (Rhonda) Fariss of Dayton, Ohio; and "The Twins" Jennifer (Loren) Pieper of Las Cruces, NM and Jacqui Fariss also of Las Cruces. Dave and Becky gave him 3 beautiful granddaughters Madeline, Alivia, and Emily Claire. Dan gave him 2 grandsons Justin and Joshua. Locally, the apples of his eyes were his grandson Bradley Pieper and his granddaughter Roxanne Garcia. Jerry served the Las Cruces Police Department for over 31 years and during that time was a founding member of the local chapter of Crime Stoppers and served as President of the Fraternal order of Police Lodge #8. He enjoyed tinkering with his '55 Chevy Bel Air and travelling the region with the Rodrunners Car Club to participate in car shows. He was one of a kind. Loved by many and respected by many more.
