Jesus C. Pena, 70, of Las Cruces, died Sunday, September 20, 2009. "Chuy" as he was fondly known, was born July 24, 1939 in Hurley, NM. to Mariano and Genevieve Barela Pena. He enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid sports fan, enjoyed coaching kids soccer, but his passion was for his family. He will be deeply missed by all his family and friends who knew and loved him. Jesus C. Pena, 70, of Las Cruces, died Sunday, September 20, 2009. "Chuy" as he was fondly known, was born July 24, 1939 in Hurley, NM. to Mariano and Genevieve Barela Pena. He enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid sports fan, enjoyed coaching kids soccer, but his passion was for his family. He will be deeply missed by all his family and friends who knew and loved him. Chuy is survived by his loving wife Merlinda Pena of the family home; sons Johnny Pena, Lorenzo Nevarez, Robert Pena, Benny Albert Pena and Frank Dale Pena all of Las Cruces and Jesus Pena Jr. of San Antonio, TX; daughter Carol Jeanette Pena of Las Cruces, NM; sisters Irene Garcia, Jennie Astorga, Linda Duran, Rosemary Estrada and Elvira Garcia. Also surviving him are 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at Getz Funeral Home where a Prayer Vigil will follow at 7 pm. Mr. Pena's Funeral Mass is at 10 am on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Our Lady of Health Catholic Church, 1178 N. Mesquite Street. Officiating will be the Fathers of the Order of the Augustinian Recollects. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
