Jesus "Jesse" Alvarez Lucero passed away on Sunday November 22nd, 2020 at his home, with his family by his side. On June the 7th of 1949, Jesse was born to Francisca Alvarez Lucero and Jose Bernal Lucero. His maternal grandmother, Aleja Rios Alvarez, a comadrona/midwife, delivered him at her home in Placitas New Mexico. He grew up in Alamogordo and graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1967. Less than a month after graduating he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served in the Vietnam Era with Detachment F Korean Military Advisement Group Eighth Army in Command. He was deployed as riot control during the DC Riots in April 1968. He was honorably discharged as a SPC5 in 1970 with multiple awards for good conduct, sharpshooter marksmanship skills and his expeditionary service. After his end of time of service he earned an associate degree from NMSU. Jesse went on to work with what was then Mountain Bell and later USWest, with a career in telecommunications for 30+ years, never missing a scheduled day of work. He was an avid horseman and skilled hunter who enjoyed helping his dad raise "pet" goats, pigs and chickens. He embraced the life motto of mind over matter often quoting "If you don't mind, It don't matter". On his 70th birthday he spoke of how proud he was to live through the 60's twice. Jesse was a loving father and proud grandfather. He taught his children and grandchildren to be in touch with their roots and proud of their heritage. He was someone who loved life, a man who was in touch with nature and enjoyed all the time he spent in the mountains of Southern NM with his family and friends. He prided himself on giving more to nature, than he took and conveyed the love of mother-earth. He loved watching the rabbits feed on vegetation grown on his property in Las Cruces, saying that rabbits fed him when he was young, and it was now his time to feed them. He was a very giving person that would give the shirt off his back for others and who was always there for his family no matter what, a generous person who helped so many people out of the kindness of his heart. Out of the many things that Jesse loved doing in life, the one thing he loved most, was being a grandfather. Taking the time to be with his grandkids, teaching them to hunt, shoot firearms, ride horses, build fires, grilling over mesquite wood and teaching them endurance and quick pace while taking them for walks. Jesse mourned the loss of his dad, Joe B. in 1992, and the loss of his mom, Frances in 2010. Two things that were important to him was to outlive his mother so that he could bury her, rather than her have to bury her son; And to live past the age that his dad was when he died. Joe B. lived for 71 years, 3 months and 8 days. Jesse lived for 71 years, 5 months and 16 days. Those now grieving him are his children Chris, Jessica, Esteban with daughter-in-law Lyndy, Melissa with son-in-law Max and their mother Maxine, all very precious to him. His grandchildren Elias, Andreas with granddaughter-in-law Jasmine, Felice, Alinessa, Eduardo, Layla and Everett, great-grandson Santana and great-grandson, Esai, to join the family in February, all loved very much by him. His siblings Tony, Tim, Mary, Robert, Sally, Molly and Danny, all who he was proud to call his brothers and sisters.
