John A. Head Jr., 73, of Dona Ana, died Friday, August 8, 2008, at home. He was born December 29, 1934 in Las Cruces to John A. Head, Sr. and Lorraine Pritchard Head. John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He especially loved fishing in Mexico where he owned a cabin on the lake with his beloved wife Alice; hunting with his sons and working on his pecan orchard. He was a true Dallas Cowboys fan who enjoyed listening to country music and watching western movies. John brought love and joy to all who knew him, there was nothing he would not do for a friend in need. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was known to be a caring, honest and straight forward kind of person who was known to tell it like it is. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, including his sweet dog, Annie. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Alice Giron Head of the family home; siblings Phil Head (Jan) and Peggy Hardin (Richard) of California, and Anne Brodd (Ron) of Rio Rancho; children Jimmy & Suzy Head of Mimbres, NM, Greg & Bobbie Jo Head, John(nie) A. Head, III, Mary Esther (Arguello) & husband Larry May and Lisa (Arguello) and husband Jim Quinones of Las Cruces; 12 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; siblings Douglas, Bart, Frank, and Truman; and one daughter Sherrie Lynn. A Celebration of his Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday August 14, 2008. at the Getz Funeral Home Chapel. The committal of his cremains will follow at the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Lenvill Tisdale and Deacon David McNeil. The Family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations in his name be made to the American Heart Association 2201 San Pedro NE Building 2, Suite 102 Albuquerque, NM 87110, and Mesilla Valley Hospice, 299 E.
