Friday evening, Feb. 25, 2005, John, beloved husband to Wietske, father of Everett and Tiffany, left his life on earth to be welcomed with great joy into his heavenly home by his Lord Jesus Christ. His family, friends, and community will miss him very much, but the legacy he leaves behind speaks for the man he was humble, loving and kind, a man with strong faith, principles and impeccable integrity. John was a hard worker and a Christian testimony to all he met. He was born August 30, 1952 to Everett and Peach Ligtenberg, the eighth of nine children. Besides his wife Wietske and their two children Everett and Tiffany, he is survived by brothers, Vic, Roger and Everett and sisters, Mary Rose, Ruth, Jane and Pearl. John was raised in Chino and Ontario, California, the first nine years on small dairy farms. He must have missed it, because as soon as he could get a job, it was at dairies. He joined the Air Force and served from Jan. 1973 until Jan. 1976, receiving an honorable discharge. He was an electronic warfare specialist in the military, yet when he returned home, dairies were still his interest. In 1979, with his new bride Wietske, he moved to Mesquite, NM. to work on a dairy. He later became a partner in another dairy and in 1994 moved his family to Idaho to build his first dairy. After six years and cold winters they decided to return to New Mexico and built the very first dairy in Deming, where they've worked hard together ever since, making a successful operation. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at Getz Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at 10 AM at University Presbyterian Church, 2010 Wisconsin Ave., Las Cruces with Pastor John C. Pickett officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho Ave. Las Cruces after which a lunch will be provided back at the church. If anyone prefers to contribute to Melanoma Cancer Research in lieu of flowers, the family will be appreciative. John's life was cut short and he suffered, be he fought the good fight and now his reward is in heaven. Arrangements by Getz Funeral Home, corner of Solano and Bowman Ave., Las Cruces, NM 526-2419.
