Send Flowers John Armistead Burt April 17, 1941 - March 28, 2017 John Armistead Burt, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, passed suddenly in his sleep on Tuesday, March 28, 2017. He was 75 years old. John was born in Lovington, New Mexico on April 17, 1941. He is a graduate of Lovington High School and Eastern New Mexico University. He was a proud civilian employee of the United States Coast Guard, with a career that lasted 35 years. He was named Honorary Master Chief Petty Officer in 2001, which was his proudest professional achievement. John had lived in Las Cruces since 2010 and was an active member of his housing association, poker group and neighborhood. John is survived by his son Jason Burt, of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughter Brandy Jacobs (husband Bob), of Newtown, Connecticut, grandchildren Nick, Andrew, Matt and Lauren; and brother Fred Burt (wife Karen) of Brenham, Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother Opal (Brown) Burt, father Lee Burt, and sister Katharine (Ron) Jones. He also leaves behind many dear friends and neighbors in the Mesilla Park area. A Memorial celebration of John's life will be held on Tuesday, April 11 at 4pm at the clubhouse of the Mesilla Park Heritage Association, 905 Conway Avenue, Las Cruces, New Mexico. Memorial donations may be made to the U.S. Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer's Association, 5520-G Hempstead Way, Springfield, VA 22151-4009.
