John L. Ellis, 87, of Las Cruces, died Wednesday, May 30, 2012. He was born Sept. 26, 1924, in Oxford, Ohio to Robert and Elizabeth Ellis. John was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he served our country honorably during WW II, participating in action against the enemy at New Georgia and the occupation of China. He also was a retired from WSMR after many years of faithful service. John was a member of The Basilica of San Albino and enjoyed woodworking, gardening, photography and cooking. Mr. Ellis will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife Josephine (JO) Ellis of the family home; step-daughter Melinda Jo Cantell; daughter-in-law Natividad Ellis; grandchildren Sara Ann Cantrell, Kenneth and John P. Ellis and great-grandchildren Mary Jo Cantrell and Ronin Ellis; Niece Mary Ann Telles and husband Oscar; great-grandnieces and nephews O.P., Nicole, Isaiah and Stephanie Telles and great-grand nieces Sofia Telles. John was preceded in death by his sons John Ellis Jr., Phillip Ellis and his first wife Eleanor Telles Ellis. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Monday, June 4, 2012 at Getz Funeral Home where a prayer vigil will follow at 7 pm. John's funeral mass to celebrate his life is at 10 am on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at the Basilica of San Albino. PDF Printable Version
