John L. Mendes, 83, born April 2, 1930 to Balente and Tomasa Mendes in Balmorhea, Texas, passed away November 30, 2013 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loved ones. In 1961 John met and married the love of his life, Trinidad, with eight children. They went on to have four more of their own. John was one of the greatest man of unconditional love, raising all 12 of his children as his very own. His love for his children and grandchildren was like no other. His eyes would light up when his grandchildren would come to visit him. John was very adamant about all his children getting a good education. He took great pride in graduating all 11 of his children from high school. He was a simple man that appreciated the smaller things in life such as listening to Paul Harvey, watching the History Channel, reading his paper and drinking his coffee. We are saddened to say goodbye to such an incredible, inspirational example of a man. We can only hope that his offspring will follow in his legacy of being kind, caring, loving, patient, understanding, and all the qualities that exemplified him as the great man that he was.
