John Reifschneider, 86, of Las Cruces, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather entered eternal life on Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at Mesilla Valley Hospice. "Rip" as he was fondly known, was born September 24, 1918. He was a veteran of the US Navy where he served his country honorably during WW II as an F1/C. While in the service of his country he was awarded the Victory Medal and the American Area Medal. Rip moved to Las Cruces six years ago coming from Michigan to be with his daughter and granddaughter. John was also a member of the Masonic lodge for 54 years. Mr. Reifschneider will be deeply missed by all his family and friends who knew and loved him. John leaves behind his daughter Sharon Hartford and husband Tom of Las Cruces; son John and wife Chris of Pickney, Michigan; grandchildren Kim Watson and husband Ed of Las Cruces, Steve Poborka and wife Kim of St. Petersburg, Florida, Sergay Poborka and wife Michelle of Seattle, Washington and John, Jason, Michelle and Liz of Pickney, Michigan. Eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive him. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years Valasta, two sisters and two brothers. Memorial Services for John will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, July 24, 2006 at Getz Funeral Home with Masonic and military honors.
