John Wesley Floyd, died on October 9, 2007 in Las Cruces, New Mexico at the age of 81. He was born to Hugh and Ruth Polson Floyd in 1926 in Bentonville, Arkansas. John is a representative of one of the original American families. His ancestors were among the settlers who fought for American Freedom and National Independence. John Wesley Floyd, died on October 9, 2007 in Las Cruces, New Mexico at the age of 81. He was born to Hugh and Ruth Polson Floyd in 1926 in Bentonville, Arkansas. John is a representative of one of the original American families. His ancestors were among the settlers who fought for American Freedom and National Independence. Having grown up in Fort Worth, Texas he served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. (now known as the U.S. Air Force), and graduated from Texas Christian University and Southern Methodist University with a degree in law. After law school John and his family moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico in 1958 where he owned and operated Las Cruces Abstract and Title Co., Luna County Abstract and Title, Hidalgo County Abstract Co., Grant County Abstract and Title, West Texas Land Title in Midland, TX, and Valley Land Title in McAllen, TX. He was an accomplished aviator owning many airplanes. His many passions included golf, hunting, fishing, traveling and a good martini. John's love of golf led to his involvement as one of the "Big Five", who developed Picacho Hills Country Club. Living through the Great Depression and World War II instilled in John a work ethic and love for life that never ceased. He was an active member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church and served in many capacities. Grandchildren Christopher, Janie, Alex, Guy Wesley, Leah, Jasmine, John, and James. Also still with us is his beautiful, cherished sister, Geraldine Beckleman and her husband Col. Jack Beckleman, nephew Floyd Cox, niece Carolyn Perry, sister-in-law Francis Davis, great-niece Leighann Palmore-Bigley, great nephew David Ladd Palmore, and many, many treasured friends. John is preceded in death by his parents Hugh and Ruth, his brother William Hugh Floyd, his sister Emma Jo Cox. Interment service will be held 9:00 A.M., Saturday, October 13, 2007 at Masonic Cemetery, followed by a Memorial service 10:00 A.M. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 518 North Alameda Boulevard, Las Cruces, NM. Father Scott Ruthven will be officiating the service. Pallbearers shall be his loving grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Andrews Episcopal Church or Mesilla Valley Hospice, 299 Montana Ave. His final hours were spent at Mesilla Valley Hospice surrounded with Love, Peace, and Dignity.
