She then began working for the Motor Vehicle Department as a clerk. Thirty-three years later, upon retirement, she was head management of the MVD in Las Cruces. Johnny L. Stokes has gone home to be with the Lord on June 18, 2007 after a courageous battle. Johnny was born August 25, 1922 in Oklahoma and moved to Las Cruces, NM in early 1940s. She then began working for the Motor Vehicle Department as a clerk. Thirty-three years later, upon retirement, she was head management of the MVD in Las Cruces. After retiring she became an avid bowler. This was among her happiest time as she bowled in the Senior Olympics and various bowling leagues with friends. Through her many years of bowling she received numerous awards and medals. Johnny was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene since the late 1940s. In the early years she sang of her love of God, as her faith was most important to her. Survived by her two sons Terry Stokes of Albuquerque, NM, Jerry Stokes and wife Francine of El Paso, TX, and sister Nadine Jones of Las Cruces, NM. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, nephew David Jones and wife Kristie of Las Cruces, NM, along with numerous nieces and nephews. At the age of 84, Johnny was a feisty vivacious woman who never refused to lend a helping hand. She outreached to everyone she met with incredible generosity and kindness. She was greatly loved and will be missed by many. Services will held Friday June 22, 2007 at 1:30p.m. at Getz Funeral Home located at 1410 E. Bowman Ave. with burial to follow at Masonic Cemetery at 760 S. Compress Rd. Pallbearers will be David Jones, Chad Jones, Jesse Molina, Gregory Coble, Gregory McChesney, and Frank Balizan.
