JOSE BENNY PADILLA 10/21/25 - 11/11/18 It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Jose Benny Padilla, 93, on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at his home in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He will be celebrating a new life in the presence of the Lord. Jose Benny Padilla was born October 21, 1925 in Rincon, New Mexico to Miguel and Marcella Barela Padilla. In 1944 at the age of 19, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Mr. Padilla was sent to Camp Shoemaker in Alameda County, CA. Thereafter he received orders to be stationed in Guam where he held the position of a Seaman 1st Class. Soon thereafter, he was given the assignment to drive US Marines in a naval boat to the Marshall Islands which at the time were under American control. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946 and received the Victory Medal due to his service during World War II. In 1947, he decided to join the Army National Guard. He served as a cook in the Guard and was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX. In 1976 Mr. Padilla retired as a Sergeant 1st Class from the Army National Guard. Jose also started a career with the City of Las Cruces/Public Housing Authority and retired at the age of 64 in November 1, 1989. Jose is survived by his daughters, Magda Padilla and Betty Aldama of Las Cruces; son Joe Miguel Padilla (Lynn) of Oregon; son Pete Martinez (Alice) of Montana; and son Mercy Padilla (Cindy) of Texas. He had 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and numerous great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emilia Rodriguez Padilla; his parents Miguel and Marcella Padilla; his grandson, Benjamin Padilla, his sisters, Amalia Lopez, Elisa Morales, Lorenza "Lencha" Carreon, and Rosa Alvarez and son-in-law, Jose Aldama. Visitation for Mr. Padilla will begin at 6 PM on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E. Bowman Ave., where the rosary is scheduled for 7 PM. The prayer vigil will begin at 10 AM at St. Genevieve's Church, 100 S. Espina Street. Jose Benny Padilla will be laid to rest at San Jose Cemetery.
