Jose D. Amaro, "Chief", 68 of Las Cruces, NM died Friday, November 28, 2008 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center. He was born January 21, 1940 in Dodge City, Kansas to Marcial and Magdalena Amaro. "Chief" as he was fondly known was an accountant and a member of the Catholic Church. As a young man he played saxophone with the Rhythms Aces to work his way through college. He played throughout the state of Kansas. Chief served his country in the United States Navy where he met his wife who was also serving in the Navy in Stockton, California. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Cecilia of Las Cruces, NM; daughter Melissa Amaro (Subroto Banerji) of Pretoria, South Africa; one son Jason Amaro (Stella Holguin) of Silver City, NM; and daughter Vanessa C. Amaro Hinojosa (Armand Hinojosa) of Sierra Vista, AZ. Three brothers, Marcial Amaro of Blackfoot, ID; Tony Amaro of Las Vegas, NV; and Ray Amaro of Houston, TX. Also surviving are two sisters, Rebecca Ruvalcaba and Chief's twin sister, Mary Amaro both of Dodge City, KS; and three grandchildren, Marissa Ruiz, Jose Ruiz and Adrianna Cecile Hinojosa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marcial and Magdalena Amaro; a son Luke Amaro; and two brothers, Alfonso Amaro and Henry Garnica. At Jose's request, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be at 10 am on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at Getz Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. Don Adamski officiating. Serving, as honorary pallbearers will be all his special and dear friends who were a great part of his life. Jose's ashes will be laid to rest at a later date in Ft. Bayard National Cemetery.
