Jose R. Gonzalez, 64, of Las Cruces, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011. He was born Aug. 30, 1946 in Alpine, TX to Ramon and Margarita Gomez Gonzalez. Jose was a veteran of the US Navy where he served our country honorably during the Vietnam Era and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/Three Bronze Stars and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Jose R. Gonzalez, 64, of Las Cruces, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011. He was born Aug. 30, 1946 in Alpine, TX to Ramon and Margarita Gomez Gonzalez. Jose was a veteran of the US Navy where he served our country honorably during the Vietnam Era and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/Three Bronze Stars and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He also was a contractor with the Dept. of Defense after many years of faithful service. Jose loved to go the casinos and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his brothers and sisters Antonio Gonzalez and wife Gloria, Wally Gonzalez and wife Lilly, Mario Gonzalez and wife Angelica, Agapito Gonzalez and wife Rosie, Manuela Herrera and husband Freddie and Juanita Jacques and husband Enrique. Also surviving him are many nieces, nephews and cousins and by his very special friend and companion "Daisy" his dog. Jose was preceded in death by his parents. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Tuesday, Jan.4, 2011 at Getz Funeral Home. Funeral Services are at 10 am on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011 also at Getz Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Whitley officiating. Burial will be at 2 pm also on Wednesday at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery with military honors. PDF Printable Version
