Jose Luis Salazar went to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 60 on December 14, 2022, after a two-year journey with gastric cancer. He died at home surrounded by family. Jose was born to Gilberto and Edelia (Macias) Salazar in Chihuahua, Mexico and moved to Las Cruces, NM as a child. He earned a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering and computer science from NMSU, where he fell in love with Patricia Martinez, who became his wife of 33 years. He earned an MBA from UT Austin. Soon after they moved back to Las Cruces and founded a cleaning and restoration company, A Striking Image, which has supported his family and grown over the last 32 years due to Jose's intelligence, business savvy, integrity to customers and hard work. Jose was a busy father of five children, and instilled in them practical life skills, a love of learning, and an enduring legacy of faith which they are passing on to their children. Upon first meeting Jose, people sometimes thought he was reserved but quickly realized he was a generous man with a sharp wit, warm heart, incredible intellect, and penchant for mischief. He touched countless people's lives in his roles as a soccer coach, mentor, employer, friend, husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, and more. Jose had many talents, from designing and building houses, fixing anything from carburetors to roofs, designing websites, pranking his family and being a taco connoisseur. Jose was devoted to God and his family and is survived by his wife Patricia Martinez Salazar, his five children Selina (Alan) Hernandez, Diego (Maria) Salazar, Marisa Salazar, Rigo (Deborah) Salazar, and Marco (Mykah) Salazar, five grandchildren (Adeliyah, Talia, Araceli, Mateo, and soon arriving baby-boy), his mother Edelia Macias Salazar, sister Alicia (Julio) De La Torre, and numerous nieces, nephews, tos, tas, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father and brother, Gilberto Salazar Sr., and Jr., and by four grandparents including Maria Macias de Torales. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 am on Wednesday December 21, 2022, at Las Cruces First, 5605 Bataan Memorial West, Las Cruces, NM. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored if you made a donation to spjinc.org, a non-profit organization which assists hardworking families in the colonias of Juarez, Mexico.
