Joseph F. Otero, 78, of Las Cruces, NM, died on Saturday September 1, 2007. Joseph was born on February 12, 1929, in Tucumcari, New Mexico, to Santiago and Genoveva Otero. Joseph F. Otero, 78, of Las Cruces, NM, died on Saturday September 1, 2007. Joseph was born on February 12, 1929, in Tucumcari, New Mexico, to Santiago and Genoveva Otero. He served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1946 to 1949. He later graduated from NMSU with a bachelors of science in 1953. Joseph was a lifetime member of BPOE. He was employed by the federal government for 33 years, after which he retired to enjoy fishing and many crafts. Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Vivian, of the family home, two sons, Joseph F. Otero Jr., of Springfield, MA, Charles Otero, of Farmington, NM, four daughters, Rita Guaderrama, of Las Cruces, NM, Mary Elebario, of Tucumcari, NM, Virginia Friend, of Los Lunas, NM, Rebeccah Deal, of Cortez, CO, two brothers, John Otero, of Corte Madera, CA, Ben Otero, Shorewood, WI, two sisters, Bessie Garcia and Frances Castillo, both of Albuquerque, NM, 16grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Santiago and Genoveva Otero, one son Chester Weatherford, and one brother, James Otero. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7PM Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at Getz Funeral Home, where a prayer vigil will follow at 7 PM. The funeral mass will be held at 2 PM, at the St. Albert the Great Newman Center. Rite of Committal will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. PDF Printable Version
