Joseph V. Herrera, who was fondly known as "Red Bone", died Monday, March 26, 2007. He was born March 29, 1948 in Las Cruces to David A. Herrera and Juanita Valles. Joseph was a veteran of the US Navy where he served his country honorably, and worked many years with the US Postal Service in Las Cruces, NM and had been a wastewater technician in Phoenix, AZ until his retirement. Red Bone was an avid outdoors person who loves to fish and work in the garden. He will be deeply missed by all his family and friends who knew and loved him. He is survived by the mother's of his children Kathleen Herrera and Jeanie Herrera and his six loving children Cassandra Herrera and Dan Cording, Christina Herrera and the late Evan (Niko) Walls of Tucson, Arizona, Joseph P. Herrera serving in the US Navy, Samantha Herrera and Charles Dickens, Pamela and Jacob Bekis and James A. Herrera all of Indianapolis, IN. mother Juanita Herrera of the family home; grandchildren Ashlie, Blake, Nikolas, Giovanni and Alyiah; brothers David Herrera and Noberto (Toby) Herrera and wife Vangie all of Las Cruces; sister Lori Herrera and husband Juan Gonzalez of Dallas, TX. Also surviving Joseph are many nieces, nephews and cousins. His father David A. Herrera preceded him in death. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Sunday, April 1, 2007 at Getz Funeral Home where a prayer vigil will follow at 7:00 PM. His funeral mass is at 10:00 AM on Monday, April 2, 2007 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church with Fr. Ricardo Bauza officiating. The US Navy and the Devil Dog's Marine League will provide military honors after mass. Rite of Committal will be held at St Joseph's Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be members of Red Bone's family. PDF Printable Version
