Martinez September 26, 1930 - May 13, 2018 Juan Bautista Martinez, known by "JB", "John", "Johnny", "Grampito", "Mr. M", and "Big Bro", entered eternal life at his home in Las Cruces on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at age 87. He was surrounded by his family, friends and neighbors. He was born in the small northern community of Las Colonias, NM a suburb of Taos, to Samuel P and Libradita "Lita" Martinez. Juan was a guard at the Department of Defense Police Force at White Sands Missile Range working his way all the way up to Chief of Police. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather, great-great grandfather, and uncle. Mr. Martinez will be missed deeply by all his family and friends. Juan is survived by his children Olga Baca (JT) of Albuquerque, Steve Martinez(Dolores) of Albuquerque, Jane Green (Michael) of Elgin, TX, Mona Martinez (Pat) of Albuquerque, Paul Martinez (Christine) of Las Cruces, and Melanie Romero of Las Cruces, numerous grand-children, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his niece Beatrice Martinez (Conner), and nephew, Fred "Ginger" Finley, and his companion and best friend of 5 years, Concha "Conchita" Baca. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Esther D. Martinez, his parents Samuel P. and Libradita "Lita" Martinez, his brothers Eli A. Maritnez, Leonor S. Honorary pallbearers will be Dylan Green, Mikey Montoya, Paul Martinez Jr., Dario Cruz Medrano, Aidan "H.E.B." Fogle, Jaxon "Froggie" Green, Jason "Bull" Burt Jr., Javier "Baby Javie" Lopez, Joseph "JoJo" Lopez and Felix Baca. A viewing and rosary service are scheduled for Thursday May 17, 2018 at 5pm at Getz Funeral Home 1410 E. Bowman Ave. Las Cruces, NM 88001. A Mass in his honor will be held at Holy Cross Church on May 18, 2018 at 10am with Father Richard Catanach officiating. All are welcome to attend and celebrate JB's life.
