Juliana Silva Conrad, 91, peacefully passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2018 in Las Cruces, NM. She was born January17, 1927 in Las Cruces, NM to Julian Silva and Francisca Molina Silva. Juliana graduated from Las Cruces Union High School and was the first person to earn a bachelor's degree in Sociology from New Mexico A & M (NMSU). She went on to earn a Master's degree. She worked with juvenile offenders at the county courthouse and taught school in Socorro, NM and Holy Cross School in Las Cruces, NM before settling down to raise her children. Juliana married George Conrad in 1956 and they were married for 59 years until George's passing in 2016. George was an aeronautical engineer from Ohio working at White Sands Missile range when he met Juliana at a party at the Amador Hotel in Las Cruces. They settled in Las Cruces, where George took a position at the Physical Science Lab at N.M.S.U. They had four children: Celeste, Eric, Laura and Karl. The family accompanied George to several assignments in Buffalo, NY., Southern California and Maryland before returning to Las Cruces. Juliana has enjoyed creative activities throughout her life. She has painted, written poems and fiction and enjoyed arts and crafts. She was a member of the theater group, Los Pastores, and served in Las Esperanzas, a group working to revitalize the Mesquite District, where she grew up. She was beloved by her family who treasured her moral guidance and compassion. Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Alfredo Silva, sister, Natalia Silva and her two sons, Eric and Karl Conrad. Those left to mourn her loss include her daughters Celeste Conrad and Laura Myers, her son-in-law, Timothy Myers, three granddaughters, Crystal Berger (Gus), Danielle Scott (Skylar) and Bianca Myers, twin great-grandchildren, Sophia and Logan Berger as well as several nephews and nieces. A funeral mass for Juliana will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 8th, 2018 at Holy Cross Church, 1327 N. Miranda St, Las Cruces, NM. Interment of cremains will take place at a later date. Service Information
