Karen (Kitty) Cleveland, 74 of Las Cruces passed away on June 9, 2013 after a long battle with complications from viral pneumonia. Kitty was born August 29, 1938 in Omaha, Nebraska to Fern and Everett Boyd. On August 7, 1967 she married Robert Cleveland in San Diego, California. Their family grew to include two daughters and a son, Karen, Debra and Robert Jr. Kitty was involved in many volunteer efforts over the years including AJROTC, Girl Scouts, AAU wrestling, Tiny Tots swim program and the Red Cross. Kitty was an AAU wrestling pairing master, soccer mom and swim instructor. She worked as a medical secretary to Dr. Gregory Kowalski until her retirement in 2006. A hard working woman Kitty was also a steadfast friend that could be counted on to be there whenever needed. She enjoyed helping people and took pleasure in a job well done never seeking the limelight. A member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Las Cruces Kitty was active in gardening at the church as well as serving on the hospitality and visitors guild. Kitty loved gardening, reading historical fiction, helping others and taking walks with her husband. Kitty was unassuming, quiet and caring. She was deeply devoted to her husband Bob. Kitty is survived by her husband of 47 years, Robert Cleveland, Sr., daughters Karen Balding and Debra Milstead and son Robert Cleveland, Jr., seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be celebrated at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 518 N. Alameda Blvd., Las Cruces on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 11:00am.
