KAREN LOU ROBERTS, 68, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 28, 2015 after recurrent episodes of cancer. Karen stayed at home receiving constant care from her husband Michael and sister Francie. She passed away at her home in Las Cruces New Mexico with her husband, sons Gaylen & Gary, and best friend Edna Franson at her bedside as she made her journey to heaven. Karen was born on April 10, 1947 in Sheridan, Wyoming to Charles and Lucille Birdie. She joined older sisters Eva, Stella, Violet, Francis and brother Charles. Karen received her Bachelors of Education at Black Hills State Teachers College and taught for several years prior to her marriage with Michael on August 22, 1970. Upon becoming a mother to Gaylen in 1972, Karen became a full-time homemaker and in 1979 their son Gary was born. During her childhood Karen was frequently the little tagalong sister and enjoyed doing many things. One time while her parents were gone she decided the family piano needed to sound more honky-tonk and added thumbtacks to every one of the hammers so when she played it, it would sound more honky-tonk. Needless to say when mom and dad got home happiness was not the result of her efforts. Karen was always happy and willing to try and make others smile. Wherever they were Karen was always active along with Michael in the local church doing what was needed frequently behind the scenes and lending a helping hand for whatever the need. Karen always went about her life happily as a Christian and with a willingness to share her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Whenever anyone went to Karen's home there was always a fresh smell of baked cookies, or other wonderful aroma. She did whatever she could to make others happy and welcome, no matter the cost. At her home she loved to crochet and many fortunate people where the recipients of her beautiful works. Karen was always ready and willing at a moments notice to get in the car and drive thousands of miles if needed to help a friend. Karen made many friends on her way through states and it would be impossible to list the things that she has done to help so many others. She was definitely one of God's children always ready and willing to do the work of the Lord! Among other places, Karen occasionally volunteered her time with The Republican Party Center as a volunteer. She was known for her many talents and was gifted in crafts. She had an enduring love for her Boston Terriers Katy and Bella. Karen is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Eva and Stella and granddaughter Taylor Marie. Karen is survived by her loving husband Michael, sister Francie of Las Cruces, sister Violet of Bend, Oregon, brother Charles (Judy) of Buffalo, Wyoming, son Gaylen (Libby) and grandson Dawson and granddaughter Ayla of Chaparral. She is also survived by her son Gary (Sharon) and grandson Cody of Las Cruces. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews and a loving church family. Although Karen will be greatly missed by her family and friends, she leaves a legacy of grace, honor, and love. A memorial service has taken place and at her request Karen was cremated PDF Printable Version
